COLORADO SPRINGS -- The rise of Bryson Howard from unknown prospect to a five-star now choosing between the bluest of blue bloods in just six months is pretty wild. Especially in an era where coaches, scouts, and content creators sniff out children of former pro athletes early.
Somehow, the 6-fooot-5 wing at Frisco (Texas) Heritage and son of former NBA All-Star Josh Howard didn't earn notoriety until May of his junior year. After a great summer playing in Nike's EYBL, Howard has gone from unrated to the No. 12 player in the country. He's grateful for his rise to prominence and believes it was a matter of working to get better and just being seen in the right places at the right times.
"It's been pretty crazy up and down," Howard told 247Sports. "Back in March and April, I wasn't thinking I was going to get this love and attention. Ever since I got it, it's truly been a blessing.
"I think it's a little bit of both," said Howard when asked if his rise was due to him improving or getting better exposure. "I didn't get the right exposure at times, but I've also been in the gym all day every day, and my work really showed in the summer during those EYBL games."
Now, Howard is set to choose between Duke, Kentucky and North Carolina after touring each campus officially. While he doesn't have an exact date set just yet, his decision is likely coming sooner than later.
