Former Alabama All-American ready to join Browns’ lineup

The Cleveland Browns depth chart for Sunday’s AFC North game against the Pittsburgh Steelers lists KT Leveston on the top line at left offensive tackle. But it would not be a surprise if Cam Robinson lines up there for the Cleveland offense’s first snap.

Offensive tackle has been a problem for the Browns through the first five games of the season. If Robinson starts on Sunday, Cleveland would have its fifth different set of tackle starters in 2025.

The Browns have a 1-4 record and are tied with the Tennessee Titans for the fewest points in the NFL this season.

On Friday, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Robinson “continues to do better and better. Has a very good understanding, like I told you guys last week, of just what we’re doing schematically. But just comfort with everything -- comfort with the play calls, comfort playing next to (left guard) Joel (Bitonio), that type of rapport and those types of things. So he’s handled everything well.”

Cleveland acquired Robinson in a trade with the Houston Texans on Sept. 29, the day after the Browns’ fourth game of the season.

Dawand Jones had sustained a season-ending knee injury four snaps into the third game on Sept. 21 after handling left tackle until that point in 2025. That put Leveston into the lineup. He had played 10 offensive snaps in his NFL career when he took over for Jones.

Leveston was a limited participant at practice on Wednesday and Thursday because of a calf injury. He returned to full participation on Friday.

On the right side of Cleveland’s offensive line, Jack Conklin started his 10th NFL season at tackle in the opener. But an elbow injury kept him out for the next three games, with Cornelius Lucas filling in until Conklin returned for Game 5 – a 21-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Robinson played seven offensive snaps in that game, six days after joining the Browns and traveling to London with the team for the contest.

“I mean, football is football,” Robinson told the Akron Beacon Journal. “That’s what I always tell people: Football is football. It’s just the language. You just got to learn the language. Different places use different language, and that’s pretty much how it is. But, I mean, it’s football. It’s only so much you can do, honestly.”

Robinson joined the Texans in March. After trading left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Washington Commanders, Houston signed Robinson as a free agent.

But after Robinson started the Texans’ season-opening game on Sept. 7, Houston turned to second-round rookie Aireontae Ersery at left tackle.

“I’m just appreciative,” Robinson said about last month’s trade. “Appreciative of them giving me an opportunity to come in and play.”

Robinson won the Outland Trophy as college football’s best interior lineman as a unanimous All-American at Alabama in 2016.

The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Robinson in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Robinson started all 91 regular-season and three postseason games that he played for the Jaguars at left tackle.

Jacksonville used its franchise tag to keep Robinson out of free agency after the 2020 season and tagged him again after the 2021 season. The second time around, the Jaguars were able to reach a contract extension with Robinson, signing the tackle to a three-year, $54 million deal that expired in March.

Minnesota acquired Robinson in a trade with Jacksonville on Oct. 30 after Vikings left tackle Christian Darrisaw sustained a season-ending knee injury in the seventh game of the 2024 season.

During his stay with the Vikings, Robinson played every offensive snap in all but one of his 11 games.

Robinson signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the Texans.

The Browns and Steelers square off at noon CDT Sunday at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. The teams have met 147 times, including three playoffs games. Cleveland has played 43 more games against the Steelers than it has against any other opponent.

“I think this division has some great rivalries among all four teams,” Stefanski said. “Obviously, busing to Pittsburgh just speaks to the proximity of these two cities and the fan bases, so it becomes personal because you have some cousins probably on either side of the state lines. But the guys understand how important these games are, understand what’s at stake and those type of things. But I think the proximity certainly of Cleveland and Pittsburgh is rare.”
