PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers could look to elevate cornerback Beanie Bishop for the team’s game against the Cleveland Browns if Jalen Ramsey is not going to be ready to play.
Ramsey is questionable to play with a hamstring injury, but logged a full practice on Friday. That could signal he might play, but Bishop is ready to go if the Steelers need to call him up from the practice squad.
“I always prepare to play, even if I don’t. We’re having guys get called up every week, just seeing guys around the league. I stay ready. You never know when your name will be called," Bishop said after practice Friday.
Bishop does not yet know if he will be needed. That comes on Saturday when the Steelers make their final determinations for what they might need on gameday. However, Bishop has been running with the twos for much of the week, giving him valuable reps.
“It’s no different for me," Bishop said. “I try my hardest whenever I am out there at any point. It’s nice getting those reps, but I take scout teams reps the same way."
Overall, Bishop played 45 snaps across two games in the preseason, but defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said that the final game would be huge, but Bishop suffered an injury that forced him to miss the game.
As a result, he was cut and landed on the team’s practice squad, but this could be his chance to showcase that he still has a future in the NFL and with the Steelers organization.
