Chelsea have a big talent on their hands according to a former Arsenal star.
Chelsea have been told they have a player who could turn out to be one of the best in the world. The Blues have spent big over recent years to sign some of the world’s top payers, but they have also placed plenty of emphasis on signing some of the best up and coming talent.
Over the last 18 months, in particular, Chelsea have been aggressive in focusing on young players, and back in June of 2024, the Blues took a big punt on a player who was emerging as one of the best young talents In Brazil.
Estevao Willian was signed on a fee worth £29million plus a reported £16million or so in add-ons. Estevao did not officially arrive until the summer just gone, and at 18 years of age, he is already impressing.
The youngster has had to be patient with game time, with Enzo Maresca taking a cerful approach, but the youngster is taking it in his stride. He came on during Chelsea’s home clash with Liverpool last weekend and scored a stoppage time winner, and since then he has continued his fine form with his national side.
Silva’s Estevao verdict
The former Arsenal star told GiveMeSport: “I believe he's going to be a very top player. He's got the talent. I have known him since he was a very little kid back in Belo Horizonte, with Cruzeiro. Later on, he moved to Palmeiras and he stepped over so fast with his game, developing his skills, his strength.
"I believe now he is going to get more mature. The maturity of moving to a different country will be so important for him to change experience. A different league, experiencing a different type of competition, a high-level competition, in Europe, against the best players in the world, will be important for his maturity and improvement. I'm sure he's going to be a top, top player. Not only for Chelsea, but in the world."
Casemiro wants to protect Estevao
Manchester United and Brazil star Casemiro warned that Estevao needs to be protected against over-hype amid his sharp rise. He said after the game: “He’s a young player, we can’t put too much pressure on him. It’s very important to say this, even with him, we have to emphasise this.
“Because we know of countless players who, if you put pressure on them, their performance drops. He plays for Chelsea, he’s a starter for Chelsea, in the most competitive league in the world, but we have to take it slow, calmly. It’s already clear he’s a great player, that was already evident at Palmeiras. But we’ll take it slow with him so as not to rush the football process.”
