Falcons Downgrade Key Playmaker Ahead of Bills Matchup

The Atlanta Falcons have been able to pick up two wins in 2025 against the Minnesota Vikings and Washington Commanders, and the team currently sits at 2-2. Though the team has been a bit unpredictable, they will be facing a very tough challenge in the Buffalo Bills.

The other big issue is that the Falcons will face the Bills without one of their most important playmakers.

Per Adam Schefter and Marc Raimondi, Darnell Mooney has been ruled out of Week 6 due to a hamstring injury. Mooney had two NDP (Did Not Participate) statuses for Thursday and Friday.

Mooney was clearly not ready to practice and participate in Monday night’s game, so the Falcons have ruled him out already.

Mooney had a breakout year in 2024, bringing in 992 yards and five touchdowns. However, the 2025 season has not been kind to the Falcons’ playmaker. He missed Week 1 due to a shoulder injury, and has now missed Week 4 due to a hamstring injury.

Week 6 will be Mooney’s third missed game of the season. In three short games, he has been targeted 16 times but has only caught seven passes for 79 yards. Clearly, injuries are starting to affect the star receiver.

Atlanta does have dual-threat star Bijan Robinson, who leads the team with 270 receiving yards. Drake London is right behind with 269 yards, and Kyle Pitts with 205 yards. All three have a touchdown apiece.

The Falcons could be a team to watch regarding the trade deadline. With Mooney suffering two injuries thus far, the team needs a true WR1. Robinson would benefit from having a big, deep field threat to set up YAC (yards after the catch) opportunities.
