Patriots Legend Urges Team To Trade For Three-Time Pro Bowler

Sitting at 3-2, the New England Patriots rank second in the AFC East, only trailing the Buffalo Bills.

After back-to-back seasons finishing last in their division, the Patriots seem to be back on track with Drake Maye under center and Mike Vrabel as their head coach. The addition of four-time Pro Bowler Stefon Diggs has made a huge impact on New England’s offense, with Diggs catching 10 passes for 146 yards in the team’s Week 5 victory over Buffalo.

While appearing on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” Patriots legend and Hall-of-Fame player Ty Law urged the team to trade for the Philadelphia Eagles’ three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown, despite the offense’s production this season.

"Absolutely bring him," Law said on WEEI earlier this week. "If you can get A.J. Brown and pair him with Stefon Diggs, bring him. A.J. Brown knows what he's doing. He knows he just got that new contract guaranteed, a lot of money. And if you look at, it's like, ‘Hey, every receiver wants the ball.' So he's not doing anything that no other receiver would do in the same position, you know?

"I mean, Keyshawn (Johnson) wrote a damn book about it. Come on, Just Give Me the Damn Ball. Now that's going public. You know, he trying to write a best seller about it. But that's just the receiver position, and he wants to feel a part of the game. So if he's not, he's going to say something about it. Like I said - he got enough guaranteed contract that he can say what he wanna say, and they just had to deal with it."

Brown is a great receiver, but has been candid about his dissatisfaction with the Eagles’ offense this season. Through six games this season, the 28-year-old receiver has only 274 receiving yards on 25 catches with one touchdown. Brown had six receptions for 80 yards Thursday night, but has had multiple games this season with fewer than 10 receiving yards.

The Eagles stressed that they don’t plan on trading the disgruntled receiver, but the Patriots should still monitor his availability this season. Trading for a receiver who’s amassed 1,000 receiving yards in all but one season in the NFL could only help New England down the road.
