The San Francisco 49ers could look around the league to fill the hole left by Nick Bosa's ACL injury, with a notable name potentially heading to the Bay Area.
Against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, Bosa's knee bent awkwardly while being double-teamed in San Francisco's 16-15 win. After the victory, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan updated reporters that Bosa tore his ACL in his right knee, with the star expected to miss the rest of the season.

Although San Francisco is 4-1 this season despite the plethora of injuries the organization has had to overcome, which star Kyle Juszczyk lauded his team's resilience, the 49ers could look elsewhere for a boost. NFL insider Dianna Russini believes the 49ers will do their due diligence ahead of the trade deadline.

The name Russini believes San Francisco will target is Cincinnati Bengals star Trey Hendrickson. Before the start of the 2025 NFL season, Hendrickson held out as he hoped to garner a contract he felt valued him and the work he put in for the Bengals throughout his career.
Hendrickson's holdout was lengthy, with star signal caller Joe Burrow even calling the situation "disappointing" as the Bengals' best defensive player sought the best contract for him. "You'd like to have all your guys out there Day 1 to try to build that cohesion that I was talking about earlier, but that's not how it usually works out," he told reporters at the time.
"You know, it's a business," he added, pausing briefly before sighing deeply. "And that is how it's gone."

In late July, Hendrickson ended his holdout and signed a one-year, $30 million contract with the Bengals. Considering the tenuous position Hendrickson and the Bengals find themselves in, Cincinnati should move the star to avoid losing him for nothing.
With San Francisco in need of pass rushers, 49ers General Manager John Lynch spoke on the conversations he's been having as the organization looks to bolster that part of their defense.
"It is a premium position," Lynch said to KNBR, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "So teams don't like just letting those guys out the door when they're good football players."

He added: "If we find a way to make our football team better, and it aligns, then we will not be shy on pulling the trigger. It's not for lack of putting in the work. We're doing that."

In the same vein, Shanahan explained how the team is looking around for players that will not only help them now but also in the long run.
"What increases my interest is who's the guy that can absolutely help us get better this year without hurting us next year? And you balance both of those out," the head coach said, per the San Francisco Chronicle.
It remains to be seen if the 49ers will trade for Hendrickson, though, considering San Francisco's needs, it would not be outside the realm of possibility to see the star in the Bay Area.
