The Baltimore Ravens will be without two-time NFL MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson for the second straight week as he continues to deal with the hamstring injury he suffered in a Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jackson missed last weekend’s 44-10 loss to the Houston Texans, and is now officially ruled out for Sunday’s Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams as well.
Veteran backup quarterback Cooper Rush made the start in Jackson’s absence last weekend, completing 14 of his 20 pass attempts for 179 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions in the blowout loss to Houston. Despite this rough outing in Week 5, the 31-year-old signal caller will make his second consecutive start against the Rams on Sunday.
The Ravens elevated Tyler “Snoop” Huntley from their practice squad on Saturday, putting him in position to serve as Baltimore’s backup QB in Week 6.
“Ravens elevated QB Tyler Huntley and S Keondre Jackson from the practice squad. Huntley will serve as the backup to Cooper Rush in Sunday's game vs. Rams,” Ravens insider Jamison Hensley of ESPN reported on Saturday.
Despite entering the season with Super Bowl aspirations, the Ravens are 1-4 to start the year. The injury-riddled team has yet another tough challenge ahead as it faces Pro Bowl QB Matthew Stafford and the 3-2 Rams this weekend.
Jackson will have some extra time to recover when Baltimore enters its bye in Week 7. The Ravens will need their superstar quarterback healthy if they want to make a late-season playoff push.
Rush was asked about Jackson’s recovery process during a press conference on Friday.
“[Jackson] is doing everything he can. He’s around, still keeping engaged in the meetings and things like that. [He is] trying to get that body right and get it going. He is in here every day doing all he can,” the quarterback said, via the team’s website.
Sunday’s Week 6 matchup against the Rams will kickoff at 1 p.m. ET.
