Colin Jost brutally mocked Mark Sanchez and the New York Jets on a SNL Weekend Update sketch after the former NFL quarterback was stabbed and later arrested following an incident in Indianapolis.

Sanchez, 38, now an NFL analyst for FOX Sports, was arrested following a violent altercation in Indy last week. The former Jets star faces several charges, initially including battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, all misdemeanors.

However, prosecutors later upgraded one of the charges to a felony battery involving serious bodily injury, which could carry a prison sentence of one to six years if convicted. The incident reportedly began as a dispute over a parking space with 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole near a hotel.

According to police and a probable cause affidavit, Sanchez accosted the man, attempted to enter his vehicle, and forcefully pushed him toward a wall and then to the ground. The other man told authorities he used pepper spray in defense, which Sanchez allegedly wiped off, and when the confrontation continued, he stabbed Sanchez in the chest in self-defense.

Sanchez and his alleged victim were both hospitalized following the altercation. The former pro football player suffered stab wounds to his upper torso and was treated at an Indianapolis hospital, where he was later arrested while receiving care. The older man was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries — mainly cuts and bruises — and was released after treatment.

Following updates to the story, which initially saw an outpouring of support for Sanchez before he was arrested, SNL mocked the FOX analyst and his former franchise, the Jets, who drafted him fifth overall out of USC in 2009. Sanchez spent five seasons on the Jets roster and made the postseason twice in that period in 2009 and 2010.

The Jets haven't made the playoffs since Sanchez played for the team, and their fortunes in 2025 haven't been any better either. The franchise is 0-5 in their post-Aaron Rodgers era.

"If convicted, (Mark) Sanchez could be sent to prison, or worse, back to the Jets," Jost brutally said on SNL. FOX Sports has replaced Sanchez for his scheduled appearance in the booth this weekend.

On Sunday, he was expected to call the Seattle Seahawks' trip to Florida to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in NFL Week 6.

Last week, Brady Quinn stepped in at short notice to replace Sanchez, while this week, three-time Super Bowl champion Mark Schlereth will step in alongside play-by-play announcer Chris Myers.

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears clarified the decision to bring additional charges for Sanchez. "One of the challenges you have in a case like this is that you are dealing with individuals who are receiving medical care and that's, obviously, the most important thing, that individuals are treated appropriately," Mears said on Monday.

"But once we were provided with additional information about the victim's current medical condition, it became clear to us that additional charges needed to be filed."
