The international break hasn't put a stop to the rumours swirling around Ruben Amorim's future at Manchester United.
Speculation comes amid reports that club officials have been consulting with key players to get a sense of the current squad morale.
Amorim, 40, is nearing his one-year anniversary at Old Trafford, having replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024. However, after leading the team to a record low 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season, progress has been slower than many anticipated.
United suffered another blow this season when they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by League Two outfit Grimsby Town. With Amorim's side still without their first away victory of the season, club bosses have sought the opinions of certain players on how things are unfolding.
This scenario mirrors the events that led to a lengthy seven-hour meeting between Ten Hag and his former bosses around this time last year. Not long after, the manager was dismissed from his position.

Co-owner Joel Glazer, chief executive Omar Berrada, sporting director Dan Ashworth and technical director Jason Wilcox all gathered at Ratcliffe's Knightsbridge offices in London to discuss the club's situation. Board member Jean-Claude Blanc, chief operating officer Collette Roche and chief financial officer Roger Bell are also believed to have attended the meeting.
Ten Hag lasted just three weeks after that marathon meeting. And it might not be much longer before United's senior figures are compelled to gather once more as on-field problems continue to mount.
Berrada and Wilcox are believed to be spearheading recent talks between the club's leadership and the playing staff. Captain Bruno Fernandes is amongst those who have been approached for input, whilst other viewpoints have also been sought.

It's been reported that these discussions were informal by nature and weren't necessarily intended to assess Amorim's position at the club as such. Nonetheless, it's not the type of activity you'd typically see at a club where everything is running smoothly.
United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has repeatedly found himself having to address questions about the manager's future. The Ineos billionaire has backed his head coach, suggesting he anticipates the Portuguese chief to stay at the club for the foreseeable future.
"He has not had the best of seasons," Ratcliffe remarked on the inaugural episode of The Business Podcast after describing Amorim as a good man. "Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That's where I would be [on the topic of sacking Amorim]."

The Glazer family's handling of United has been met with anger by supporters, and Ratcliffe has struggled to change this perception since buying nearly 30% of the club and taking over daily operations last year.
Names like Oliver Glasner, Eddie Howe, Gareth Southgate and Diego Simeone have been touted as potential replacements for the United managerial role. However, it appears that the current boss is set to stay in his position for the time being.
