A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga champions Barcelona could be made use of in an unfamiliar position once more over the weeks and months ahead.
That’s according to **[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20251012/1002548853/gerard-martin-central-zurdo-reabre-otros-canteranos-aspirantes.html)**, who highlight Gerard Martín as the player in question.
Defender Martín has of course spent recent weeks plying his trade in his natural berth of left-back.
Following an injury suffered by the Blaugrana’s first-choice option, in Alejandro Balde, the Spaniard was cast into an altogether more prominent role.
And for the most part, Martín went on to prove himself a solid option.
As alluded to above, though, the 23-year-old’s versatility could nevertheless be tested once more moving forward.
As per a report from MD, with Balde now back fit, Martín is being considered to slot into a centre-back role.
Still on the lookout for a dependable left-footed option to replace Iñigo Martínez, it is not at all out of the question that the Spaniard – tested in a central role in pre-season – will be called upon by Hansi Flick at the heart of defence in Barcelona’s upcoming fixtures.
