Blazing-fast Steelers wide receiver gets surprising start against Browns

PITTSBURGH --Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Scotty Miller is starting for the team against the Cleveland Browns with Calvin Austin III out with a shoulder injury.

Austin was sent to a local hospital and put in a sling after immediately suffering the injury. Croke Park did not have an X-ray machine locally, though those X-rays came back as negative for Austin. As for when he returns, Austin says he will leave that up to the medical staff.

It will be Miller’s first start with the Steelers over the last two seasons, and he will have to pick up the slack for Austin, who has been the team’s down the field threat.

Head coach Mike Tomlin says that Miller knows all of the spots in the offense, and praised him during the ramp up period to the regular season.

“He knows all the spots,” Tomlin said. “He’s highly conditioned. He’s very competitive. He’s a been-there, done-that guy, and so there’s a lot of value in his presence.”

If Austin is out for an extended period of time, Miller is likely to be the first guy up off the bench, with Roman Wilson, Ke’Shawn Williams, and Ben Skowronek figuring into the plans, too.
