Hard-hitting Steelers safety unexpectedly inactive against Browns

PITTSBURGH --Pittsburgh Steelers safety Chuck Clark is listed as an unexpected inactive against the Cleveland Browns. With Jabrill Peppers up and active, that likely means that Peppers will take on most of Clark’s role in the defense.

Clark has played a significant amount of snaps with DeShon Elliott injured and Peppers catching onto the defense. Clark is coming off two back-to-back seasons with serious injuries. He missed all of 2023 with a torn ACL, and returned for the 2024 season, but it was ended early by a torn pectoral muscle.

As for other inactives, defensive tackle Logan Lee is also inactive. For him, that will mean being the last defensive tackle on the totem pole, and instead, the Steelers will play Esezi Otomewo, who will make his season debut on the interior of the line.

Calvin Austin III is out with a shoulder injury. He did not practice this week. Scotty Miller is expected to start for the Steelers. Roman Wilson and Ke’Shawn Williams will also have bigger roles.

Meanwhile, the Steelers also made Andrus Peat and DeMarvin Leal inactive. Leal is inactive with Alex Highsmith back. Jack Sawyer carries more special teams value to the team than Leal, thus he is playing.
