Arizona Cardinals tight end Travis Vokolek was carted off the field in the first quarter of his team’s Week 6 game against the Indianapolis Colts with a neck injury.
He will not return, the team announced.
The TV broadcast added Vokolek is alert and has movement in his extremities.
On the ensuing kickoff of the Colts’ game-opening touchdown drive, Vokolek went down as he was making a block.
He was quickly treated by trainers before being placed on a stretcher and carted off.
Heading into the matchup, Vokolek appeared in four games (one start) and recorded two tackles.
The third-year tight end was expected to see more snaps this week and beyond with Tip Reiman out for the rest of the year with an ankle injury.
With Vokolek sidelined, the Cardinals are glaringly thin at tight end. Trey McBride and Elijah Higgins represent the remaining healthy options in the room.
Offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum and Jon Gaines II will likely see more snaps in Vokolek’s absence.
Michael Wilson, Emari Demercado questionable to return vs. Colts
Aside from Vokolek’s injury, the Cardinals also watched wide receiver Michael Wilson pick up a finger issue late in the first quarter.
After making a five-yard catch near the goal line, Wilson was seen heading to the locker room with a towel over his hand.
He’s questionable to return.
The same goes for running back Emari Demercado, who is dealing with an ankle injury. The running back has one carry for one yard.
