Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro’s contract at Manchester United expires in the summer of 2026, which could prompt the football club to shop around for a replacement. The 33-year-old, who joined the Red Devils from Real Madrid in 2o22, has won an EFL Cup and an FA Cup with the club.
United spent an initial £60 million on the Champions League winner, who has played 131 matches for them. He scored in Manchester United’s 2-0 EFL Cup final against Newcastle United back in 2023, when he latched onto a Luke Shaw cross to head home for Erik ten Hag’s side.
The uneasy situation around Kobbie Mainoo’s position at Old Trafford could make the club explore more than one midfield target, as the Red Devils could look to replace both Mainoo and Casemiro. The English midfielder who is at United has not featured as regularly as he would have liked to this season, which led him to hand in a loan request at the end of the summer window.
Manchester United are looking to reignite their interest in a midfielder, with recent reports stating that the club are focusing on England’s Adam Wharton.
According to The Mirror, the Crystal Palace midfield maestro could be subject to a £60 million bid from Manchester United in the winter window, after a great start to the season from the 21-year-old.
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish believes the midfielder has no interest in leaving Selhurst Park at the moment, as he said to talkSPORT: “There’s no pressure on us to do it [a deal], and I don’t think there’s any real pressure from the player either.”
United believe that a bid worth £60 million would be enough to see Crystal Palace accept the bid, which could see Adam Wharton complete a move to Old Trafford.
For the Eagles so far since joining, Wharton has played 53 matches, getting six assists. He has also won the FA Cup and the Community Shield with the club. Following their FA Cup success in the summer against Manchester City, the Eagles are now playing European football. They are competing in the Conference League and have started their European campaign with a 2-0 win against Ukrainian opposition Dynamo Kyiv.
