Antony signed permanently for Real Betis during the summer window, after a successful loan spell in Spain during the second half of last season. The out-of-favour Manchester United winger found life difficult in Manchester, but he seems like a completely different player since arriving at Betis.
He helped Betis reach the Conference League final, where his side lost 4-1 in the final to Chelsea. Antony, so far during his spell at the Spanish outfit, has 16 goal involvements in 31 matches. During his time at Manchester United, he registered 17 goal involvements in 96 matches, in all competitions.
The Brazilian winger had his heart set on a permanent move to the LaLiga outfit during the summer, and his wish was granted. £21.7 million was the fee United received for him, after spending £86 million on him back in September 2022.
However, before his departure from Old Trafford was confirmed, one Red Devil wanted him to stay at the club. Summer signing and fellow Brazilian Matheus Cunha was the player who wanted Antony to remain, but the winger had one club in his head, and that was going back to the Conference League runners-up.
Talking to Diario AS, Antony said: “Matheus Cunha wanted me to play there [at Manchester United] with him, but the situation was already very difficult. I love him very much.”

Cunha joined United from Wolves over the summer, with the Red Devils paying his £62.5 million release clause. Although Cunha has not yet scored for the club, he has excited fans with his play since arriving at the club. Cunha is one of United’s summer attacking signings, alongside Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo and Enzo Kana-Biyik.
The former Wolves forward has featured for Brazil during the international break, where he got an assist for Vinicius Junior, as Brazil eased themselves to a 5-0 win against South Korea.
