A former Super Bowl-winning quarterback has been fired from his college head coaching job.
Former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer has been fired by UAB, according to multiple reports. The 53-year-old had been the Blazers’ head coach since 2023.
UAB was Dilfer’s first college head coaching position. He went 4-8 in his first season, but he never wound up doing any better than that, as he went 9-21 overall. At the time of his dismissal, he had lost 15 consecutive road games at UAB, and they were off to a 2-4 start this season.
Dilfer made some headlines after initially taking the job, and was clearly confident about his chances of success. His fiery temperament was certainly entertaining at times, but it did not deliver results.
Dilfer spent 13 years playing in the NFL, and was the quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens in 2000 when they won Super Bowl XXXV. Presumably, he will look to land another head coaching job, though he could return to the analyst work he did with ESPN for a number of years.
