Manchester United’s 2011 Champions League squad that reached the final against Barcelona has seen a large number of players retire. Only a number of players are still active from the squad, and although he was not part of the 2011 squad, Cristiano Ronaldo, who was in the 2007/08 team, is still playing for Portugal and Al-Nassr.

While the 40-year-old who was part of the 2008 glory is playing in Saudi Arabia, there is one member of the 2011 squad still playing, but in England.

The Republic of Ireland’s Darron Gibson made 60 appearances for Manchester United. He joined the club in 2004, making his debut a year later against Barnet in the EFL Cup. During his time at Old Trafford, Gibson won two Premier League titles, three EFL Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup. The midfielder was also part of Manchester United’s 2011 Champions League squad, which reached the final.

He left United for Everton in 2012, before playing for Sunderland, Wigan Athletic and Salford City.

At the age of 37, the Irish international has been spotted continuing to play football in non-league. He has been seen at Wythenshawe FC, who play within a couple of miles of Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium.

Wythenshawe FC play in the North West Counties League Premier Division, the ninth tier of English football.

Darron Gibson was seen making his way out onto the pitch for the non-league outfit back in September.

Since leaving the Premier League, he has featured for EFL sides Wigan Athletic and Salford City. Salford are owned by members of the Class of ’92, such as David Beckham and Gary Neville, who have led a consortium to own the club since the summer.

Gibson was in Salford’s squad that won at Wembley Stadium in the EFL Trophy back in 2020. Gibson’s side were 4-2 winners on penalties against Portsmouth.
