Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix looked sharp to start the game in London against the New York Jets on Sunday.
After the first quarter Nix was 11-13 for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Then, things didn’t go so hot.
Nix finished 19-30 for 174 yards and the one score, but the Broncos escaped the Jets with an ugly 13-11 win to improve to 4-2 on the season.
After the contest, Bo Nix was asked about what changed from the start to the finish, as his offense mustered just three points over the final 45 minutes.
“We weren’t in a very good rhythm at all. First half, we’re going quick, getting the ball to different players. Spreading the ball around, getting them in certain defenses where we get softer coverage. And then obviously there in the second half it felt kind of like the opposite,” Nix said.
However, those three points in the fourth quarter proved to be huge. Bo Nix had clutch completions to Evan Engram and Marvin Mims Jr. that ultimately set Wil Lutz up for a field goal. The Broncos were down 11-10, but took a 13-11 lead and held on from there thanks to some outstanding defense.
“Thank goodness Evan got open on his man-to-man and then it started a switch. That drive we were able to do just enough, getting into a little bit of a rhythm and spread the ball around enough to go down and get points,” Nix said. “But just kind of felt like a tale of two different halves with what we were doing.”
Head coach Sean Payton wasn’t apologizing for the victory, while acknowledging Denver has several things to clean up.
Bo Nix was also critical of the Broncos performance, but careful not to downplay a win. He knows they have to be more efficient on offense, but they did just enough.
And on a day the Denver defense had a crazy nine sacks, they’ll come back over the Atlantic Ocean with adjustments to make but a happy flight nonetheless.
