Two former Patriots QB’s suffer losses in Week 6

Mac Jones is undefeated no more.

The 49ers quarterback suffered his first loss as the team’s starter on Sunday in San Francisco’s 30-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Jones, who was 3-0 entering Week 6, completed 27 of his 39 passes and threw two interceptions. Despite the loss, the quarterback still managed to throw for 347 yards.

The former New England Patriots 2021 first-round pick has been filling in for the injured Brock Purdy while dealing with ailments himself. It’s unclear who will start for San Francisco in Week 7 when it hosts the Atlanta Falcons for “Sunday Night Football.”

Jacoby Brissett also got the start on Sunday and, like Jones, suffered a loss. The Cardinals signal-caller went 27-of-44 with two touchdowns and an interception in Arizona’s 31-27 loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

Brissett, who spent the 2024 season with the Patriots as part of his second stint in New England, was called to be the Cardinals starter as Kyler Murray deals with a mid-foot sprain.

Murray returned to practice on Friday, but wasn’t healthy enough to play in Week 6. It’s possible he misses more than just Sunday’s loss.

A third former Patriots quarterback, Cam Newton, who is now retired had his college number retired by Auburn on Saturday.
