KANSAS CITY, MO (FOX 2) - According to Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell, the Lions were "three plays" away from dominating the Chiefs in the first half of the game Sunday night, but they trailed 13-10 at halftime.
Despite Campbell's enthusiasm, Kansas City played better in the second half, leading to Detroit's second loss of the season.
The Chiefs (3-3) outscored the Lions (4-2) 7-0 in the third quarter, and won the game 30-17. The Kansas City defense held the Lions under 30 points for the first time since their season-opening loss to Green Bay.
Detroit opened the game with a nine and a half minute drive that was capped off with a trick play having David Montgomery toss a touchdown pass to Jared Goff. Only after a long deliberation, the officials called it back, saying Goff never got set at the line, and therefore it was an illegal formation. That left the Lions up 3-0. The Chiefs answered back quickly, and after a missed extra point led 6-3.
Detroit scored again, and looked to go into halftime with a 10-6 lead, but Kansas City scored with a few seconds left in the half to take the lead back, and then never trailed from there.
