Stacy Rost: 3 nuggets from short-handed Seattle Seahawks’ win over Jags
Here are the instant reactions to Sunday’s game from some of the voices of Seattle Sports, including Seahawks Radio Network analyst Dave Wyman’s thoughts in the video the at the top of this post.
Bob Stelton – Wyman & Bob (2-7 p.m. weekdays)
This is a very nice win on the road for the Seattle Seahawks. Jacksonville has been a surprise team coming in with a 4-1 record and, despite being riddled with injuries on defense, the Hawks held the Jags to just 12 points and sacked Trevor Lawrence seven times! Lawrence had only been sacked a total of six times in five games coming into this one.
Kudos to Byron Murphy II, who had two sacks on the day and now has 4 1/2 on the season. He had just one-half sack all of last season. Also, a very nice return to the field for Demarcus Lawrence chipping in with 2 1/2 sacks on the day.
Another stellar day for Sam Darnold going 16 of 27 for 295 yards and two touchdowns.
It was almost a 50-50 split between run and pass on the day – 27 pass attempts to 26 run attempts. Really the only negative offensively was their inability to get that run game going, coming away with just 60 total yards on those 26 carries.
Other than that, there’s a lot to be excited about on a day where this team went on the road very short-handed on defense and beat a team that has been rolling.
Watch out for Byron 👀

Brock Huard – Brock & Salk (6-10 a.m. weekdays)
Game ball to the Seattle Seahawks’ defensive line for setting the tone early and stepping up to help a secondary dealing with injury attrition. Trevor Lawrence had only been sacked six times total in five games coming into this one, but the Seahawks defensive front got to him early and helped rack up a season-high seven on the day.
Sam Darnold has continued to play like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. His feathery throw to Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 61-yard TD flipped momentum early in the game, and he made one of the biggest plays of the day with his third-down touchdown strike to Cooper Kupp.
The Seahawks’ lack of a run game made for another adventure when trying to close out a game again. They couldn’t hold a lead against the Cardinals, and this one became a little too close for comfort today. For as good as Darnold has been, it becomes very difficult to take significant chunks of time off the clock when your offense is one-dimensional.
After one-third of the season, the absence of a sustained rushing attack looms as the biggest issue for the Seahawks’ offense. On the other side of the ball, you hope that an extra day before the Monday night game against the Texans and then a bye week after are the balm for all the injuries ailing your key players in the secondary.
COOP there it is! 🔥
