Newcastle Backed To Make January Move For Premier League Starlet Who Would Be A“Great Bit Of Business”

Newcastle could make an approach for Fulham midfielder Josh King when the transfer window reopens in January, according to the Chronicle ‘s Lee Ryder.

The journalist claims that the Magpies have already done a fair bit of scouting of the 18-year-old who has made his first-team breakthrough this season and his arrival at St James’ Park would be regarded as a “great bit of business”.

It is not known whether Fulham would sanction King’s departure in the New Year but Eddie Howe‘s team won’t be restricted in their ambitions by PSR.

The £130m sale of Alexander Isak to Liverpool has given them a fair bit of headroom, so a sizeable bid for King can be seriously explored.

King has been the centre of controversy this campaign

The midfielder thought that he had scored his first professional goal against Chelsea earlier this season. However, VAR ruled it out for a foul in the build-up.

Michael Salisbury had adjudged that Rodrigo Muniz had stepped on the foot of Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah and recommended that the goal should not stand.

The PGMOL would later admit that the decision was a mistake and, somewhat bizarrely, King would go on to win the club’s goal of the month award despite the strike ultimately being disallowed.

Newcastle have a new man in charge of transfers

The Magpies have confirmed that Nottingham Forest sporting director Ross Wilson has taken over as head of recruitment.

Whether the 41-year-old has had any influence on the club’s pursuit of King, it remains to be seen, but there will be plenty for him to get on with between now and January.

The lack of firepower has been evident in the first couple of months of the season. 6 goals in 7 league games is the joint second lowest total in the Premier League, with bottom of the table Wolves the only team with a worse record. That issue may need to be addressed in the next transfer window.
