NBA star calls for his favorite NFL team to: ‘trade for Shedeur’

Portland Trail Blazers star and diehard Las Vegas Raiders fan Damian Lillard would like to see the Raiders trade for rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Current Raiders starter Geno Smith has 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions through the first six games of the season as Las Vegas is off to a 2-4 start.

“Time to gone ahead and trade for Shedeur, man," Damian Lillard posted on X on Oct. 5 following a blowout loss to the Colts.

He went on to say that he believes Shedeur Sanders is the right choice as the quarterback of the future for the Raiders.

“He not washed… he just turning the ball over,“ Lillard said of Geno Smith. ”But it’s time to get Shedeur on the team and get ready for the future."

Sanders is currently the backup to rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel in Cleveland after being drafted by the Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

While it remains to be seen if the Raiders or anyone else will trade for Sanders this year, his father, Deion Sanders, expects Shedeur to get a starting opportunity with the Browns at some point in 2025.

“Be patient and be ready. You’ve got to be ready when it’s time. But when it’s time, you’re going to know,” Deion said recently of his message to Shedeur. “And it’s coming up. You know, I’ve got a prediction. I ain’t telling nobody. I’ve got a feeling when it’s going to go down. But it’s going to go down this year. Yeah, he’s going to get a shot.”

The Raiders did earn a win over the Titans this past Sunday, but it wasn’t exactly a stellar performance by Smith, who was 17 of 23 for 174 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Lillard didn’t post anything defending Smith after the win, so it appears as though he is still on board with Shedeur Sanders being the long-term answer at quarterback for the Raiders.
