Overjoyed over a Bucs corner.
Joe has typed about this so many times, readers are probably sick of reading about it.
Todd Bowles is close to Bucs cornerback Jamel Dean, but not too close that Bowles won’t mock Dean from time to time.
Bowles has been hounding Dean about getting more picks for years. In Training Camp 2024, after Dean picked off a pass in practice, Bowles vowed in his post-practice presser to get Dean drug-tested.
Dean is often in Bowles’ office, sometimes well after most players are gone for the day. He and Bowles have a bond.
Yesterday, when Dean got his second interception of the year — truly something for the Bucs to celebrate — Bowles was happy for Dean. But, Dean did something else against the 49ers that Bowles thought was worthy of even more praise.
[It was a sack](https://www.joebucsfan.com/2025/10/inaugural-sack-for-jamel-dean-veteran-stands-by-his-prediction/)!
> “That was Dean’s first sack that I have seen in my career and that was probably the best play that I can say next to Mike Evans getting 1,000 yards last year that I have ever seen,” Bowles said. “That goes down in history for me.”
Dean had one of the Bucs’ six sacks yesterday. So despite Bowles hounding Dean for years to do better picking the ball off, it wasn’t a pick that got Bowles excited. It was a sack.
Holy smokes, Bowles must be reading this site.
