The Detroit Lions lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 30-17 on Sunday night football. After the game was over, Brian Branch threw a punch at Juju Smith-Schuster.
Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch (32) sacks Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (15) during the second half at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2025.
After that occurred, a lot of things escalated. This was not a good look for Branch on that punch to Smith-Schuster. Lions head coach Dan Campbell commented about the incident at the postgame press conference and he was not a fan of what happened. It will be interesting to see if Branch will face any discipline from either the NFL or the Lions for that matter.
NFL Analyst Believes That Detroit Lions Safety Brian Branch Should Be Suspended

NFL analyst Robert Griffin III commented about what transpired between Branch and Smith-Schuster after the game. Griffin III said,
“Brian Branch started the fight in the field. Brian Branch threw a punch and knocked JuJu Smith-Schuster down. Brian Branch should be suspended. THERE IS NO PLACE IN SPORTS FOR THAT.”
This is the correct take about what transpired after the game. The Lions will next play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home on Monday night football. If Detroit does not have Branch for that game, it is going to be a huge loss for this defense. Not having him against Baker Mayfield is going to be a big problem for this defense potentially.
