NFL legend rips Cowboys’ defense: ‘Never seen ...so many people running wide open!!!’

Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin is not a fan of his former team’s defense.

Not by a long stretch.

I have never seen an @NFL defense with so many people running WIDE OPEN!!!! @dallascowboys," Irvin posted on social media after Dallas lost to the Carolina Panthers, 30-27, on Sunday.

With the game tied at 27-all and 6 minutes, 27 seconds remaining, the Cowboys never got the ball back.

The Panthers converted a 4th-and-3 on the drive with the Cowboys’ defense unable to stop them.

On “Get Up,” former Jets coach Rex Ryan ripped the Dallas defense.

“You don’t even see the safety, [safety Juanyeh Thomas] is so far back there. Horrible play design on defense, nobody challenged them,” Ryan said. “Look, he’s parked 30 yards deep. What’s he waiting for, a fake punt back there? This is ridiculous.

“Horrible defense.”

He added: “You wonder what the legend Michael Irvin is referring to. There are guys wide-ass open.”

Ryan Fitzgerald booted a 30-yard field goal as time expired for the Panthers, who improved to 3-3.

Dallas fell to 2-3-1.

Ryan also referred to the Dallas defense as the “Dumbsday Defense,” adding they are “on pace to give up the highest passer rating in NFL history.”

Dallas ranks 31st in the NFL in opposing points per game (30.7) and last in opposing yards per game (411.7).
