Chelsea offered chance to sign Barcelona defender

Chelsea return to action on Saturday when they visit Nottingham Forest.

The Blues currently sit seventh in the Premier League table having beaten reigning champions Liverpool 2-1 in their last outing.

Enzo Maresca’s side travel to The City Ground to face a Forest side that have struggled so far this term, losing four of their seven matches.

Ahead of the game, it has emerged that Chelsea have once again been offered the chance to sign a La Liga defender.

As reported by TBR Football, the Blue have been offered the opportunity to land Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo.

The report claims that the Uruguay international has been offered to Chelsea, although the Premier League side are more interested in his teammates, Eric Garcia.

The ex-Manchester City man is in the final year of his current contract with Barcelona, and the report suggests that this is a big reason for Chelsea’s interest in the central defender.

It is claimed that, while Chelsea were in talks about a possible deal for Barcelona star Fermin Lopez over the summer, they also enquired about Marc Casado.

The report also reveals, however, that the Blues also asked about the availability of ex-City man Garcia, 24.

Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the Spaniard, having asked about his availability during this year’s January transfer window.

Despite the interest in the Spain international, it is claimed that La Liga champions Barcelona are in talks over a new deal and are confident that an agreement will be reached with the player.

Barcelona are, however, said to have been weighing up which current stars could be sold in order to ease their financial concerns.

That prompted Chelsea to show interest in Lopez and Casado during the recent summer transfer window, but it appears that the West London side are also chasing Garcia and could move to sign him next year if he doesn’t agree a new contract with his current club.
