Russell Westbrook Makes His Thoughts Clear About Playing Overseas

The NBA season starts in just a week, and Russell Westbrook still doesn’t have a home in the league.

At this point, it seems very likely that we won’t see Westbrook until at least later in the season, if at all.

Because he hasn’t been able to strike a deal with a team, some people have predicted that Westbrook will take his talents overseas for a hefty contract.

New reporting says that won’t be the case.

“There has been ‘zero discussion’ to date about him weighing interest to play abroad this season, league sources say. He’d naturally generate a slew of overseas offers if he was open to them, but I’m told that securing his next NBA opportunity has been the focus for Westbrook’s camp. Even if that means, as it increasingly appears, options fail to materialize until after the 2025-26 regular season starts on Oct. 21,” per Marc Stein.

Russell Westbrook currently has zero interest in playing overseas, as his main focus is to play in the NBA, per @TheSteinLine

If Westbrook chose to move to a foreign league, he would make a boatload of cash.

He would probably secure the largest contract for an ex-NBA star playing internationally.

But it sounds like Westbrook doesn’t want to do that and still has his hopes set on being in the United States at some point this season.

When the summer began, a lot of people thought he’d sign another contract with the Denver Nuggets.

Last season, he averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists for Denver and looked quite comfortable with the squad.

However, he chose to try free agency but didn’t receive offers from other teams.

There is still talk of a team such as the Sacramento Kings taking him on for a veteran’s minimum contract, but nothing has been agreed on.

Therefore, the league is without Westbrook, but that doesn’t mean he’s packing his bags and moving.
