Snap Judgments For The Colts Game

For the first time, well, ever, the Cardinals had their intended offensive line together for a whole game on Sunday in Indianapolis.

The Cardinals built out an offensive line of left tackle Paris Johnson Jr., left guard Evan Brown, center Hjalte Froholdt, right guard Will Hernandez, and right tackle Jonah Williams last season. That was derailed by the last play of the first quarter in Week 1 of 2024, when Williams went down with a knee injury. By the time Williams returned, Hernandez was done for the season with his knee injury (and then later Williams had to sit again and Johnson also hurt his knee.)

Hernandez had finally come back last week against the Titans, but Brown was missing. So Sunday, the whole group was out there, and they played all 73 snaps together. The Cardinals also had a season-best 400 yards of offense, and the Cardinals had seven passes gain at least 20 yards. Too small of a sample size to determine cause and effect, but it is promising.

Among the other interesting snap-related stuff, tight end Trey McBride -- who is playing almost every snap anyway -- was in for a season-high 66. Wide receiver Zay Jones also had a season-high 58, not a surprise after Marvin Harrison Jr. left in the second quarter with a concussion.

Bam Knight didn't get the start at running back -- Michael Carter did -- but Knight played an RB-high 37 snaps. It should be noted Emari Demercado left the game with an ankle injury and coach Jonathan Gannon acknowledged that development helped pump up Knight's workload.

Cornerback Max Melton, who missed the Titans game with an injury, returned to play 57 of 59 snaps. Fellow cornerback Will Johnson, who had been on a snap count the previous week, played 50 snaps, which was a career-best 85 percent for him. Inside linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither also played a season-high 85 percent with 50 snaps.
