The San Francisco 49ers have stayed afloat throughout their bevy of injuries throughout this season. They entered Sunday against a fellow 4-1 team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with hopes of going to 5-1 and maintaining their lead in the NFC west.
Instead, the team lost 30-19 to the Buccaneers, as the defense couldn't hold off the Bucs' pass attack, despite them not having Mike Evans or Chris Godwin, and Emeka Egbuka leaving with a hamstring injury.
In the process, the secondary made some history they didn't want to.
The Niners defense, coached by Robert Saleh, didn't record a single interception in their game against the Buccaneers. This is now the 13th consecutive game in which San Francisco's defense didn't record an interception, which is now the longest streak in NFL history.
The previous record was held by the New York Giants, who went 11 games without an interception.

49ers defense now has longest streak without an interception in NFL history
For those 49ers fans wondering who was the last defender to haul in an interception and when, it was Isaac Yiadom in Week 11 of the 2024 season. The Niners lost that game 20-17 to the rival Seattle Seahawks. That game was last November, 11 months ago.
That's not good.
The 49ers secondary had no answers for the Buccaneers or quarterback Baker Mayfield. The Niners allowed a 34-yard touchdown reception to a wide-open Kameron Johnson, and a 45-yard touchdown catch to Tez Johnson, who ran past multiple defensive backs. Mayfield completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 256 yards and two touchdowns.
Eventually, the streak must come to an end. Next up, San Francisco takes on the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday Night Football in Week 7. After the Falcons, the 49ers face the Houston Texans, Giants, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, and Cleveland Browns in that order before their bye.
And we'll see if the Niners can bring an end to this streak sooner than later.
