When Giannis Antetokounmpo first opened the door to leaving the Milwaukee Bucks during the NBA offseason, it sent shockwaves through the basketball world.

Ultimately, the two-time NBA MVP, who led the Bucks to their first championship in 50 years in 2021, settled on returning to Milwaukee. But he didn’t close the door on making a future move.

Understandably, Bucks brass are doing anything and everything to keep their superstar player around. But on Monday, they went to further lengths than ever before to placate the Greek Freak.

Milwaukee Bucks Add Alex Antetokounmpo To Roster Alongside Giannis And Thanasis

For the last six seasons, the Bucks have used one of their precious 15 roster spots to employ Giannis’ older brother Thanasis. That is despite the fact that Thanasis Antetokounmpo is very clearly not an NBA-caliber basketball player.

For his career, the 33-year-old is averaging 2.4 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game across 196 games played. He is the shining example of “Human Victory Cigar” trope, who the whole world knows is more or less employed to be Giannis’ professional best friend.

But it appears that wasn’t enough.

On Monday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the Bucks had signed Alex Antetokounmpo, the youngest of the three brothers, to a two-way NBA contract.

Alex had previously played with Toronto Raptors’ G-League affiliate during the 2021-22 season before returning to play in Greece the last three years. He also teamed with Giannis and Thanasis to compete in the 2022 NBA All-Star Skills Challenge.

Like Thanasis, nothing about Alex’s basketball career shows that he’s anywhere close to an NBA-level player. But without Giannis, the Bucks are hardly an NBA-level team. So maybe it’s for the best.
