Chelsea want to agree January deal for Barcelona star?

Chelsea are reportedly keen on landing Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

The Blues suffered a huge setback over the summer as Levi Colwill picked up a serious knee injury. He has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The club's hierarchy decided against pursuing a replacement in the transfer market over the summer, but they are expected to search for one in January.

Araujo has now emerged as a top target, according to Football Insider.

The Blaugrana have had registration and Financial Fair Play issues with La Liga, and the situation has not improved over the past 12 months.

A big-money sale would provide some much-needed relief and Araujo could be permitted to leave if they receive a lucrative winter bid.

Araujo signed a new contract with a release clause worth €65m, but he could be permitted to leave the club for around €50m in January.

Chelsea are presently the front-runners to land his signature.
