Bengals key playmaker, former Penn State star ‘out a while’ with injury before Steelers game

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki is slated to miss the team’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a pectoral injury that will keep him out long-term, according to Bengals head coach Zac Taylor.

Gesicki, who has become a big part of what the Bengals do offensively, will be replaced by a combination of Drew Sample, Tanner Hudson, and Noah Fant. While Gesicki is their top target at tight end, they have a deep room capable of replacing him.

So far this season, Gesicki has just eight receptions for 61 yards, and his production has been severely hampered by the loss of Joe Burrow, who will miss at least 12 weeks with a turf toe injury that required surgery.

Now, with Joe Flacco in the fold, it could have been Gesicki’s opportunity to rebound, but his injury will hurt that for the time being.

In addition for Gesicki, there were multiple other injuries the Bengals suffered, including to star pass rusher Trey Hendrickson. Hendrickson avoided a long-term injury and is day-to-day, but it is unknown if he will suit up against the Steelers on a short week.

Meanwhile, offensive tackle Amarius Mims is okay after suffering an injury that forced him to come in and out of the team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers.
