In their third preseason matchup, the Golden State Warriors took a short trip to Crypto Arena to face the Los Angeles Lakers. No Curry or Butler this time, but that left more opportunities for young players like Jonathan Kuminga and Brandin Podziemski.
Gaining experience and refining their roles will be essential on a roster that sees a sharp decline in go-to scoring outside of the Curry and Butler duo.
Air Kuminga soared in LA
Kuminga has all the potential to be a key offensive player and has expressed interest in that role for years. His patience and composure this preseason show that he has embraced the role assigned to him by the coaching staff.
Becoming more of a playmaker and converting in transition for easy baskets has been Kuminga’s focus, and it was evident against the Lakers.

Kuminga finished with 13 points on 62% shooting, including an emphatic dunk over Jake Laravia, along with six assists. The five turnovers highlight some growing pains in his decision-making, but with time, when he can put everything together, those will be addressed.
His approach is clear: he’s willing to score, but mastering the skills of a complete player will benefit both the Warriors and his future.
Podz is one of the hardest workers on the Warriors
Podziemski had another impressive night against the Lakers, finishing with 23 points, five rebounds, and eight assists. His dedication to his craft is evident.
Seeing himself as the future face of the franchise means he must work as hard, if not harder, than the current stars to fill Curry’s shoes.

Until then, noticeable improvements in his ability to get to his spots and his read-and-react in playmaking have been seen—he only had two turnovers handling the ball at times. Understanding what the Warriors need and being that for the team has come naturally to Podziemski.
With a long season ahead, refining his offensive skills will enhance his versatility, making the Warriors very difficult to counter come playoff time.
Warriors need consistency behind their stars
While Kuminga and Podziemski’s development is exciting, producing consistent scoring outside of Butler and Curry plays a crucial role.

Moses Moody has shown great promise but will miss the rest of the preseason with a left calf injury. Defending without fouling will be a major focus for the young players, especially given the Lakers shot 35 free throws to only eight for Golden State.
Curry, Butler, and Horford will play in Portland on Tuesday, while Draymond Green will sit out that game.
