Giants’ elite offensive lineman is playing his way to an end-of-season award

The New York Giants’ offensive line has seen a major improvement in its offensive line play this season. In Week 3, the unit benefited from the return of star left tackle Andrew Thomas.

Over the last three weeks, Thomas has returned to form and given the Giants elite play from the left tackle spot. His performance has been so solid that Thomas could be in the running for a brand-new end-of-season award.

Thomas has been on the field for 246 snaps so far this season after returning from a Lisfranc injury in Week 3. Across those snaps, he has earned an 83.0 Pro Football Focus grade, which ranks fourth among 112 eligible offensive tackles in the NFL.

On 130 pass-blocking snaps, Thomas has surrendered just two pressures with zero quarterback hits and zero sacks allowed. The Giants can feel comfortable dropping back to throw with Thomas protecting rookie Jaxson Dart’s blindside.

Thomas is also posting a 76.2 run-blocking grade, ranking 12th at the position as he clears space for rookie RB Cam Skattebo.

Thomas could be the “Protector of the Year”

The “Protector of the Year” is a new NFL award that will be presented for the first time at the end of the 2025 season to recognize the league’s best offensive lineman. Thomas is making a strong case to be the first-ever “Protector of the Year.”

The Giants now have several players vying for end-of-season awards. Along with Thomas, Brian Burns is contending for Defensive Player of the Year, Jaxson Dart for Offensive Rookie of the Year, and Abdul Carter for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

Although they are only 2-4, the Giants are getting some incredible performances out of their best players. The future is looking brighter by the day in the Big Apple.
