Former Alabama receiver in line to make his NFL debut on Monday night

Former Alabama wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks is eligible to make his NFL debut when the Washington Commanders play the Chicago Bears on Monday night.

The Commanders announced on Monday afternoon that Brooks had been elevated from the team’s practice squad to active status for the game.

Each NFL team can elevate two practice-squad players for every game. This will be Brooks’ first elevation of the 2025 season.

Washington elevated Brooks with wide receiver Noah Brown and Terry McLaurin sidelined by injuries and Deebo Samuel carrying a questionable designation on his playing status because of a heel injury.

Brooks joined the Commanders as an undrafted rookie from Louisville in May. Brooks led Washington in receptions during the preseason with 10 catches for 90 yards.

While Brooks didn’t survive the cut from the preseason to the regular season, Washington re-signed him for its practice squad after he cleared waivers.

Brooks had 57 receptions for 896 yards and 10 touchdowns in three seasons at Alabama before transferring to Louisville for the 2024 campaign. In his only season with the Cardinals, Brooks had 61 receptions for 1,013 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Commanders and Bears play at 7:15 p.m. CDT at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland. ABC will televise the game.
