(WTVY) - Southeast Alabama isn’t just producing NFL hopefuls — it’s producing leaders, role models, and difference-makers.
Former Troy University record-breaking running back Kimani Vidal seized his opportunity with the Los Angeles Chargers after being promoted from the practice squad to the active roster due to injuries. The promotion has paid dividends for both Vidal and his team.
In Sunday night’s victory over the Miami Dolphins, Vidal rushed for 124 yards, added three catches for 14 yards, and scored his second career touchdown. His performance showcased the talent that made him a standout at Troy and demonstrated his readiness for the professional level.
Former Abbeville player Josh Hines-Allen, now a linebacker for the Jacksonville Jaguars, is making a difference as well. Hines-Allen has channeled his platform into meaningful community work through his “Four One For All” Foundation, which supports pediatric cancer research.
The foundation operates on a unique model where every sack recorded by the Jaguars this season results in money donated to cancer-related charities.
The cause holds deep personal significance for Hines-Allen, whose son Wesley is now in full remission from leukemia.
Wesley served as an honorary captain for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks as part of the NFL’s Crucial Catch initiative, highlighting the family’s journey and resilience.
“The purpose and the journey and the drive is awesome,” Hines-Allen said. “I think my foundation has a big impact on this week, obviously. But we’re doing a lot of community work with the foundation, with the American Cancer Society this month. And so I’m excited to work with those guys and continue to do what we do. But also need to get those sacks up so we can start donating a little bit more money to the cause.”
The linebacker’s commitment to the cause extends beyond personal experience, as he partners with the American Cancer Society to maximize the foundation’s impact throughout October and beyond.
