It's painfully obvious what Bills must do after Week 6 letdown loss vs. Falcons

While it’s still early in the season, make no mistake about it. The Buffalo Bills are in trouble. That’s right, even at 4-2, the Bills have now dropped two consecutive games and they enter their bye week in second place in the AFC East behind the New England Patriots.

Now you might be thinking why the Bills would be in trouble, despite being two games above .500. The answer is quite simple, their defense is a massive liability and we can no longer deny it.

Coming into this season, the Bills were picked as Super Bowl favorites by a lot of people and they fixed a major problem which was their defense. However, the defense is even worse than we could imagine. They can’t stop the run and they are playing horrible situational football.

Aside from their Week 2 game against the Jets, the Bills have given up 19+ points in every single game this season and now they have lost to two second-year quarterbacks in Drake Maye and Michael Penix Jr. The defense under defensive coordinator Bobby Babich has been underwhelming and it’s time for the Bills to make a change if they want to keep their Super Bowl window open.

Bills must make a coaching change on defense

It’s time for the Bills to make the bold move of making a switch on defense with the playcalling. Whether Babich is still on the staff or not, Buffalo cannot afford to let him keep calling the plays when this defense has become one of the worst in the league. According to Alaina Getzenberg, per ESPN Research, the Bills gave up 335 yards in the first half which is the most the Bills have allowed since 2001.

Per ESPN Research: The 335 yards by the Falcons are the most that the Bills have allowed in the 1st half of a game since 2001 (Week 2 @ Colts).

Through Buffalo’s six games, they have given up 400+ total yards twice and are allowing 324 yards per game. Despite the greatness of Josh Allen, this defense is going to bring this team down if a change is not made in terms of defensive coaching.

In 2023, the Bills fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey when the offense was underperforming. Now granted, it wasn’t this early in the season but the Bills still made the move. You can make the argument that Dorsey’s offense that year was better than Babich’s defense this season.

Throughout the summer and build up to the season, all that people were talking about was whether or not the Bills would raise the Lombardi trophy in February. Now, we have to talk about whether or not they are truly the best team in their own division.
