Jayden Daniels gets the memes for costly late fumble in Commanders’ loss

Jayden Daniels failed to stick the landing during Monday’s game.

The Washington Commanders quarterback Daniels had an up-and-down performance on “Monday Night Football” against the Chicago Bears. Daniels produced some nice moments at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Md., throwing for three touchdowns (including an absolute dart to Zach Ertz in the fourth quarter).

But Daniels also threw an interception in the first quarter and then cost Washington the game with a brutal fumble in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter. The Commanders were leading 24-22 and had possession with just over three minutes left, looking to be in full clock-draining mode.

However, on a 3rd-and-1 play in Chicago territory, Daniels bobbled a handoff to running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, causing a fumble that was recovered by Chicago’s Nahshon Wright.

Another angle of the play showed that the fumble was clearly Daniels’ fault.

The fumble directly led to a Commanders’ loss as the Bears took control from there and marched the ball into field-goal range before Jake Moody hit a game-winning 38-yarder as time expired. That gave Chicago an improbable 25-24 victory.

Daniels was quickly slapped with the memes online for his immensely costly fumble.

The Pro Bowler Daniels, who led the Commanders to a surprise NFC title game berth as a rookie last year, is one of the darlings of the NFL right now. But 2025 has been off to a much tougher start for him as Daniels already missed multiple games due to a knee injury and now has Washington at just 3-3 on the year.

Now it looks like Daniels has taken Geno Smith off the hook when it comes to the most roastable “Monday Night Football” performance of the season thus far.
