The Commanders followed by cutting the deficit to 13-7 on Daniels' 22-yard touchdown pass to receiver Chris Moore. The Bears seemingly had forced Washington to punt after Daniels threw an incomplete pass on third-and-6 from the Chicago 48. But a facemask penalty on Wright resulted in an automatic first down.
The Commanders had an opportunity to creep even closer, but Matt Gay's 50-yard field goal attempt hit the left upright with 1:10 left in the first half.
Gay redeemed himself on the opening possession of the second half, hitting a 53-yard field goal to draw Washington to within 13-10.
Moody's third field goal without a miss, a 41-yarder, increased the Bears' lead to 16-10 midway through the third quarter. The kick came after Williams' apparent 11-yard TD pass to receiver Rome Odunze was nullified by an illegal formation penalty.
The Commanders took a 17-16 lead on Daniels' 33-yard TD pass to a wide open Luke McCaffrey with 2:56 to play in the third quarter.
The Bears had an opportunity to take the lead. But Williams lost five yards after fumbling a shotgun snap on third-and-1 from the Washington 25 and Moody's 48-yard field goal attempt was blocked by defensive tackle Daron Payne.
The Commanders followed by extending their lead to 24-16 on Daniels' 6-yard TD pass to tight end Zach Ertz, capping a 6-play, 63-yard drive that was highlighted by Daniels' 37-yard completion to receiver Jaylin Lane.
The Bears answered quickly as Swift caught a short pass from Williams in the left flat, stutter-stepped past a defender along the sideline and raced 55 yards for a TD. Williams' two-point conversion pass was incomplete, preserving Washington's 24-22 lead with 10:26 remaining in the fourth quarter.
