The Chicago Bears walked into a wet, damp evening against the Washington Commanders, returning to the site of the famous 'Fail Mary' play from less than a year ago that ultimately was responsible for leading to the current state of the franchise. But this time, the results were different.
In what was a heavyweight fight all evening, the Bears managed to pull through, courtesy of a 38-yard field goal by Jake Moody, who was responsible for nearly half the points the Bears scored in the game.
This game proved a lot about the Bears and who they are as a team. With three straight wins after an 0-2 start, the arrow is suddenly pointing up for Ben Johnson and co. Johnson's formula for success isn't pretty but it's one that is leading to wins and building confidence for a young roster that continues to make progress each week.
But this game wasn't just the young players stepping up when needed. Veteran D'Andre Swift had a 55-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, giving the Bears a lot of life. Meanwhile, wide receiver DJ Moore also was a solid contributor all evening, having an impact in both the running and passing game.
As the season progresses, the roster's identity is also shifting. This isn't a roster that's trying to find ways to win games, it is a roster that's winning games in a nontraditional style. At some point over the last three games, the Bears have needed the offense, defense, and special teams to contribute, and Monday night's win in Washington was an example of that.
With week 6 officially in the books, let's get into some of the notable takeaways from the Bears third win of the 2025 season, in a game that many expected to be a back and forth affair between both teams.
