Tetairoa McMillan, Lucas Havrisik highlight big week for ex-Arizona players in NFL

Tetairoa McMillan is a first round pick who the Carolina Panthers are investing millions of dollars in. Lucas Havrisik is an itinerant kicker looking for a stable employer in the National Football League.

On Sunday, the two former Arizona Wildcats on opposite sides of the NFL spectrum made key contributions to help their respective teams win.

Here is a look at how McMillan, Havrisik and other Wildcats around the league fared this week.

Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers

McMillan got on the board Sunday with his first career NFL touchdown reception. Then he followed it up with another.

McMillan’s first score came in the second quarter of Carolina’s 30-27 win over the Dallas Cowboys. McMillan tripped up Cowboys safety Donovan Wilson on his way to the end zone for a 19-yard touchdown.

McMillan then scored a go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, once again gaining critical separation from Wilson.

McMillan only had three receptions for the game but he made them count.

Lucas Havrisik, K, Green Bay Packers

Havrisik went from an unknown kicker to an overnight sensation in Green Bay after delivering a pair of field goals, including a crucial 39-yarder with two minutes remaining that sealed the Packers’ 27-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Havrisik got signed to the Packers’ active roster approximately 24 hours before Green Bay’s game. He started in place of Packers Brandon McManus, who is dealing with a quadriceps injury.

Havrisik, who previously played eight games for the Rams in 2023, made the best of his opportunity in Green Bay.

It was quite a whirlwind of a week for Havrisik, who said postgame that he was recently preparing to be a substitute teacher in Cleveland.

“It’s of course strange, but I try to do my best to adapt to the situation,” he said.

Whether Havrisik stays on with the Packers for the rest of the season or not, he’ll hold a special place in Green Bay lore for stepping in Sunday. And he’ll have a game ball to show off to any of his future students. That’s if the kicking career doesn’t work out.

Jacory Croskey-Merritt, RB, Washington Commanders

Croskey-Merritt ran for 61 yards in Washington’s Monday Night 25-24 loss to the Chicago Bears. He was also involved in two fumbles, one that he coughed up in the first half and the other on a handoff exchange with quarterback Jayden Daniels late in the fourth quarter.

The latter fumble set up the Bears’ game-winning field goal drive. Overall, not a great night for the rookie.

Jordan Morgan, RG, Green Bay Packers

Morgan got the start at right guard for the Packers Sunday after primarily playing left guard and right tackle through Green Bay’s first five games.

Morgan, who played 41 games at left tackle at Arizona, did pretty well at right guard, earning a 69.4 grade, per PFF. The Packers had previously played Sean Rhyan at right guard.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur said after the game that he’s trying to get Morgan reps at one position after moving the former first round pick around the offensive line. LaFleur indicated that Morgan and Rhyan will continue to battle it out for snaps.

Tyler Loop, K, Baltimore Ravens

Loop accounted for Baltimore’s only points Sunday, hitting a 37-yard field goal in a 17-3 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Loop is now 9 for 10 on field goal attempts in his rookie season.

Nick Folk, K, New York Jets

Folk made three field goals, including a long of 52 yards, in New York’s 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Folk has been a bright spot on the winless Jets. He has made all 12 of his field goal attempts this season. Two weeks ago, the 40-year-old Folk made a career-long 58-yarder in a loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Folk has 415 career made field goals, two shy of Justin Tucker for 13th most all time.

Christian Roland-Wallace, S, Kansas City Chiefs

Roland-Wallace played 14 snaps on defense for the Chiefs in their 30-17 win over the Detroit Lions. Roland-Wallace secured a potential touchdown-saving tackle on Detroit running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

Roland-Wallace also played 14 snaps on defense.

Roy Lopez, DT, Detroit Lions

Lopez played one of his best games in a Lions uniform, earning a 77.1 grade, per PFF. Lopez had three tackles against the Chiefs. The three tackles are tied for the most he’s had in a game this season.

Jonah Savaiinaea, LG, Miami Dolphins

Savaiinaea’s tough rookie season continued Sunday as he posted a measly 50.0 grade, according to PFF. The Dolphins offensive line has consistently struggled to block for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
