Chicago Bears kicker Jake Moody (16) kicks a game-winning field goal against the Washington Commanders during the fourth quarter at Northwest Stadium.
The Jake Moody Game!
Activated from the practice squad a few hours before game time, Moody came through in the clutch in his Bears debut, hitting a walk-off 38-yard field goal. Moody hit four field goals in his pinch-hit effort for Cairo Santos, whose right thigh injury flared up over the weekend.
But Moody wouldn’t have been in position for a game-winner if not for D’Andre Swift’s sensational effort from the backfield, picking up 108 yards on 14 carries and adding a 55-yard touchdown reception in the fourth quarter.
It wasn’t the prettiest performance from the Bears’ offense but it was enough to get the job done. And for just the third time in 13 tries since firing Lovie Smith, the Bears won coming out of their bye week.
Caleb Williams finished 17-of-29 for 252 passing yards and a touchdown. In doing so, he became the first quarterback in franchise history to throw for 200-plus yards and at least one touchdown in each of the first five games of the season.
On the defensive side of the ball, Jaquan Brisker intercepted a pass and Kyler Gordon recovered a fumble forced by Montez Sweat in the first quarter, and Nahshon Wright came through with an incredibly clutch muffed-snap recovery late in the fourth quarter to set up the Bears’ game-winning drive.

Bears 25, Commanders 24

Did the Bears deserve to win on “Monday Night Football?” Yes? No? Maybe so? They were undoubtedly blessed to get the fumble by the Commanders in the final minutes. Without it, the Bears don’t get their game-winning drive and kicker Jake Moody’s 38-yard field goal to celebrate.
But this is the NFL. Wild things happen every single week. Remember what happened last year against the Commanders at Northwest Stadium? Who can ever forget that? This time, the Bears played well enough to take advantage of a fortunate break and overcome a bunch of calls by the officials that didn’t work out in their favor. You take the win on the road and celebrate it. However, it happens.

Just as we all expected, right? Yes, I’ve picked against the Bears every week this season. Now I’m not sure I can pick them to win without messing with the mojo. Suddenly, the Bears are grooving after a second straight massive win on the road. Next week, against the Saints at home, should tell us a lot about the rest of this season. It’s an opportunity to really show up and show out against one of the league’s worst teams, but those games are always a bit trickier coming off a big win.
Game on.

And there was never a doubt. Except for the entire second half. The Bears stole one in D.C. and there’s a lot to clean up. But for now, you celebrate the three-game win streak.

It wasn’t pretty, and the refs were terrible but the Bears are all of a sudden becoming a team that is able to pull victory out of the jaws of defeat. Back-to-back nail-biting wins to get to 3-2. Wow. Did someone say playoffs?!

Redemption. Revenge. Rejoice.
Whatever you wanna call it, the Bears have found a backbone. 2 games in a row where their backs are against the wall and the Bears came out on top. 2 games last year that you easily lose. They faced the Commanders and the refs tonight but it didn’t matter. The Bears found a way.
The defense stepped up. The run game finally came to life. The offensive line might have found its best five. Theo Benedet was excellent in his first start at LT. Darnell Wright might’ve been your MVP coming back from injury.
So many great things to like about this win but what is the thing I like most? There is clearly a light at the end of the tunnel with Ben Johnson!
Bears are back.
