England No.1 Jordan Pickford admits he is "happy at Everton" as he prepares to ink a new four-year deal with the Blues.

Pickford, 31, will sign a new deal with the Toffees later this week, putting pen-to-paper to keep him on Merseyside at Hill Dickinson Stadium until 2029.

It is just reward for Pickford, one of Everton's best players throughout his time, who has grown into a real leader and has remained fiercely loyal to the club during difficult periods and when linked with big-money moves

The Everton stopper said: “Obviously everyone knows how happy I am at Everton but I’m not going to go too much into it. I’ve got my England head on for the next two days.

“I just want to get the qualification, get the win tomorrow and hopefully get another cap and hit number 80. That’s my sole focus at the minute.”

Pickford has been brilliantly consistent for his country as well, and will win his 80th cap against Latvia. He is yet to concede a goal in this current qualifying campaign.

Remarkably, stats show in 79 caps Pickford has made just one mistake leading to a goal - against Belgium 19 months ago. He believes that is down to his determination and dedication in training every day as to why he has remained so consistent for England.

“I put it down to the way I train," said Pickford. "I feel like I train really well. I train to improve. When the session is put on, I give 100 pc. I think I tick every box Monday to Friday to be at the best I can be on a match day.

The Liverpool ECHO has launched the Royal Blue newsletter - the latest way to get the inside track on the Blues.

Created by Everton correspondent Joe Thomas, it will provide in-depth insight on the major talking points - on and off the pitch - through an exciting, historic period for the club as the first team moves to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and Everton Women enter Goodison Park.

The idea is to step away from the treadmill of press conferences and player ratings and instead offer a glimpse behind the scenes at the club - and on Joe's travels up and down the country following Everton.

Royal Blue is delivered to your inbox every Wednesday and completely free.

“And I’ll never change that method. I think it does work. Some I did as a young kid, it got put into us as a young kid because when you’re at youth team and you’re not training well or you’re trying to have a down day, you probably wouldn’t get picked to play on a Saturday.

“I’ve never changed that attitude. I’ve always had that mentality. I train as the way I play. I know it’s an easy saying but it’s something that I feel has worked … because I’ve ticked every box.

“I’m fully prepared for what is going to come on match-day, that’s where I step up that’s the arena where I go and enjoy myself and put on a display.”
