It’s been nearly two decades since the Philadelphia 76ers sniffed a chance at winning a championship, and now the Eastern Conference franchise is hoping to use some of the success that they had in the early 2000’s and recreate it ahead of the 2025 NBA season.

The Sixers revealed this week that the team is bringing back its mascot Hip-Hop, which last appeared in 2001 when Allen Iverson and Co. won the Eastern Conference championship before falling to Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal and the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals.
The Sixers announce tonight that in celebration of the 2001 Eastern conference championship team, the 25th anniversary, they will be bringing back their mascot Hip-Hop starting with the games celebrating 2001 on Saturday, November 8. pic.twitter.com/bzDXifjLhk

Hip-Hop’s return will take place for the 76ers on Nov. 8 against the Toronto Raptors, and perhaps former Philadelphia legends like Iverson will be present at the game.
“Hip-Hop will be back on center court with his signature swagger, charismatic and entertaining style that fans loved from that era,” the Sixers said in a statement.

Joel Embiid and the Sixers will launch their 2025 NBA season on Oct. 22 against the Boston Celtics, and after a disappointing end to last season the franchise will be hoping that the return of Hip-Hop can spark some more excellence on the court like they previously saw nearly 25 years ago.
