The Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled with offensive inconsistency for years.
Progress arrived slowly in 2024 when the team hired Arthur Smith as offensive coordinator.
The offense showed flashes of potential throughout the season, but those concerns carried into the offseason, raising questions about whether Pittsburgh could truly compete with elite opponents.
Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky believes the Steelers have turned a corner this season.
He pointed to their improved identity and execution during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, expressing optimism about the direction of Pittsburgh’s offense under Smith’s guidance.
“I really really like the Pittsburgh’s offense right now,” Orlovsky said on The Pat McAfee Show, adding, “It’s really really really impressive…. There’s no question they know who they are. Their identity, what they should and should not do.”

Orlovsky highlighted the six-offensive-lineman package as evidence of Pittsburgh’s growth.
The Steelers initially used just one play from that formation, but they’ve since expanded it to six different looks in only a few weeks.
That approach keeps things simple for the offense while creating confusion for opposing defenses, a balance Orlovsky praised as both smart and effective.
Pittsburgh’s offense faced a legitimate test in Week 6 against the Cleveland Browns, who entered the game with the second-ranked defense in the league.
The Steelers moved the ball consistently and controlled the tempo, proving they could execute against a talented defensive unit.
Last season’s offense could win games, but faltered against elite competition.
The Chiefs and Eagles exposed Pittsburgh’s limitations, as Russell Wilson’s deep throws provided occasional sparks, but the passing attack lacked rhythm, and the run game struggled to generate momentum.
Aaron Rodgers has brought stability and efficiency this year.
The quick-pass scheme is clicking, giving receivers space to create after the catch.
The Steelers have also rushed for over 100 yards in consecutive games, adding the balance and consistency that were absent in 2024.
