Bills Linked to Much-Needed Trade for Defensive Playmaker

The Buffalo Bills have now lost two straight games after falling to the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football in Week 6. Due to the loss, the team has now dropped to 4-2 on the season and there are a lot of questions that need to be answered.

At the beginning of the year after a 4-0 start, the Bills were being talked about as a Super Bowl favorite. Some of that talk has cooled off after the team’s performance over the last two weeks.

Looking at the losses, there are a few things that jump out as major needs. One of those needs comes on the offensive side of the football, with Buffalo clearly needing more weapons for superstar quarterback Josh Allen. Another need comes on the defensive side of the ball.

If the Bills are going to make a run at a Super Bowl win this season, they’re going to need better play in their defensive secondary.

Who could Buffalo look into acquiring to help fix their secondary issues? There is one player who has been suggested as a potential option.

Pro Football Focus analyst Bradley Locker has named the Bills as one of the top potential trade suitors for Seattle Seahawks cornerback Tariq Woolen ahead of the deadline. He would make perfect sense as a fit in Buffalo and could be exactly the fix that the defense has needed.

“The Seahawks look poised to make the playoffs at 4-2, but the team could still deal a player like Woolen - especially with depth at the position in Shaquill Griffin, Josh Jobe and Derion Kendrick,” Locker wrote. “Woolen's background and fundamental athleticism would attract numerous teams, even though he's a 2026 free agent.”

Throughout his first 53 career games in the NFL, Woolen has racked up 179 tackles, a forced fumble, four fumble recoveries, 11 interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 42 defended passes. He has been an extremely productive cover corner so far and is just 26 years old.

As mentioned by Locker, Woolen will become a free agent this offseason. Whoever acquires him before the deadline, assuming he gets traded, would have a chance to sign him long-term to be a key part of their defense.

If the Bills do decide to get aggressive and pursue a trade for Woolen, he would immediately become their top defensive back. Being able to lock him up to a contract extension would give Buffalo a No. 1 cornerback for years to come. That would have to be intriguing to the front office.
