The San Francisco 49ers have been left scrambling after losing their two best players on defense: edge rusher Nick Bosa and linebacker Fred Warner.
The Niners could still save their season, however, by working out a trade with the New York Giants to replace Bosa.
According to NFL analyst Chase Senior of Chat Sports, the G-Men have interest in 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings.
This is what Senior wrote on social media:
"The Giants are reportedly interested in Jauan Jennings. Malik Nabers is out for the season, the Giants want to support rookie QB Jaxson Dart by getting him some help at WR. Jennings is unhappy with his contract and got into a sideline argument with Kyle Shanahan on Sunday."
It seems the two teams are in a position to help one another out. Losing Nabers is a big blow to the Giants, and after their huge win over the Philadelphia Eagles last week, they seem like they could be a legitimate team in the NFC and could potentially even make the playoffs.
As for the 49ers, despite losing on Sunday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they still find themselves in control of the NFC West and have a good chance to make the playoffs as well.
During Sunday's game, Jennings got into it with head coach Kyle Shanahan. The head coach tried to downplay it after the game, but it is clear that Jennings is not pleased with his current situation in San Francisco.
The Giants have a player who would help San Francisco out a ton on defense in Kayvon Thibodeaux. The edge rusher has 2.5 sacks this season and had 11.5 sacks for the Giants back in 2023.
He would not solve all of San Francisco's problems on defense, but he would give a little boost to a pass rush that desperately needs it.
As for the contract situations, Jennings is a free agent after this season and it has long seemed like his time with the 49ers would end after 2025. As for Thibodeaux, he is under contract through 2026, so the Niners might have to include a pick along with Jennings since there is a chance Jennings could just be a rental.
It would be a big move by the Niners, but this sort of move would not sacrifice much of their future since Jennings is going to almost assuredly leave anyway and Thibodeaux could factor into the team's longer-term plans.
It is just a rumor linking Jennings to the Giants at this point, but this rumor could blossom into something more if general manager John Lynch wants to take a big swing.
