The Washington Commanders are coming off a tough loss on "Monday Night Football" against the Chicago Bears in Week 6, and they could turn to a former first-round pick with hopes of helping quarterback Jayden Daniels in the aftermath.
With injuries and inconsistency hampering the wide receiver corps, the Commanders are set to host former Tennessee Titans first-round draft pick Treylon Burks.
The Titans cut Burks during the offseason. However, he has generated significant interest in free agency.
The Commanders have an opportunity to see what he could provide to a wide receiver corps depleted by injuries first-hand, with another critical matchup on the docket in Week 7.
"After a visit to the #Broncos today, source says Treylon Burks is visiting the #Commanders tomorrow," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on X on October 14. "An interesting potential addition."
Daniels completed 73.1% of his passes for 211 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the Commanders' loss to the Bears.
That was despite Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown missing the contest with injuries. Pro Bowl wideout Deebo Samuel also battled an injury and was declared active just hours before Monday’s game.
Daniels found wide receivers Chris Moore (3-46-1) and Luke McCaffrey (1-33-1), and tight end Zach Ertz (6-43-1) for touchdowns. However, Samuel had just four catches for 15 yards and may have been still feeling the effects of his lingering heel injury.
Notably, injuries have played a significant part in stalling Burks' career after the Titans selected him No. 18 overall in the 2022 NFL draft.
That adds to the intrigue around the Commanders' interest.
"The Titans waived Burks from injured reserve last week, making him a free agent," Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio wrote on Tuesday. "He was recently cleared for all football activities after recovering from a fractured collarbone in training camp.
"Burks was limited to 22 games in his first two seasons, and he tore his ACL in the fifth game of the 2024 campaign."
